Roger Grubbs North by Northwest is an enthralling tale about a young gentleman on the trip of a lifetime to find out about a dark past that he has kept secret since his childhood. On a trip to Deadwood, South Dakota Brett meets a captivating and mysterious young woman that changes his life for the good, and temporarily bad. On his search for the truth on the death of his parents Brett and Niki get entangled in a very nasty situation with the miners that work for the man that stole Brett's parents land claim. Through many near death experiences, Brett and Niki become very close, and eventually fall in love. With Niki being a very headstrong and stubborn woman, Brett finds himself in fragile situations more often than not. It is eventually revealed that Brett saw Niki's mother be murdered when he was a child, and the same man that stole Brett's family's claim also stole Niki's family's claim to a diamond mine in South Africa. Brett found and returned the land deed to Niki on their trip to South Africa and the couple (after many misunderstandings and misjudgments) returned to Niki's childhood home. Unfortunately, along the way, George lost his life in order to save Brett. George had accompanied Niki and her mother to America and promised to care for Niki, and in turn made Brett promise to take care of her after his passing.
North by Northwest was fairly predictable, but being a short story it was a wonderful way to escape reality, if even for a short period of time. The story was very vivid and had enough action to keep one interested for the length of time required to read the story. As a "western" type of story it does well highlighting the technology of the times by emphasizing the use of the train and a horse and carriage. Overall it was a delightful action/romance with just the right amount of comedy. I would definitely read another one of Mr. Grubbs stories.

"North by Northwest" was such a suspense and a love story. I loved everything about the book. How it started off and Brett was trying to find answers about what happened to his parent's when they went to Deadwood. Then he meet Niki and they became friends but couldn't be out in the public unless she was dressed like a boy. He found out that Mr. Thomas was involved in his parent's death. Then a twist came when Brett thought Nicki killed Mr. Thomas but she actually didn't George had. Niki's mom went to talk to Mr. Thomas to get back the cylinder they had stole from her family in South Africa and Mr. Thomas killed Niki's mom. Then another George didn't actually kill Mr. Thomas. Mr. Thomas killed himself by tripping over Nicki's mom body and falling on the knife! George ended up getting shot for Brett. The story ended Brett was going to come back to the states and leave Niki the diamonds but she stopped him at the train station. It was so beautiful. I pictured the whole book in my head. This story did not turn out how I thought it would. There was so many twist and turns and the book. I was on the edge of my seat reading this story. I couldn't wait to get to the end and know what happened with diamonds and who had killed Mr. Thomas. I would recommend people to read it they would definitely be shocked the plot in the book. I really enjoyed reading this book.

I was so impressed, with this story. This is one of those books, that isn't what you expect. I love how easy it is to, instantly get so engrossed, that you are right there with the characters, and you don't notice anything around you. Roger is a one of a kind Author, and am so glad I found him. His books, nail you from the start to the end. Rogers books are the kind, you can read more then once. You want to share them, when you are done. You did it again, Roger.
Can't wait to start the next book. I suggest getting, more then one at a time, because you won't want to wait for mail time. <3 Roger Grubbs Books.
